In this workshop, we examine the concept of assessment in plurilingual education, summarize selected competences particularly relevant to plurilingual and intercultural education, and discuss the role of alternative assessment (portfolios and self-assessment) in plurilingual education.
Educators who teach English (or other languages) as a second language and are interested in incorporating the principles of pluringual assessment into their curriculum.
Educators who have diverse group of learners and are interested in learning how to use alternative assessment (portfolios and self-assessment) in plurilingual education.
To develop familiarity with the main concepts in plurilingual assessment;
To examine plurilingual approaches to language assessment;
To learn practical ways of including all languages into language assessment;
To distinguish between plurilingual assessment in English language learning and in plurilingual contexts; and
To discuss the potential barriers for the implementation of plurilingual assessment.

Dr. Reza Farzi is an APTPUO professor at the Faculties of ARTS and Education. He has many years of ESL/EFL teaching experience both in Canada and abroad. He also works as Curriculum Coordinator at the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute of the University of Ottawa. His current research and academic interests include pre- and in-service language teacher education, data-driven curriculum development for ESL and EAP programs, the application of technology in education. Most recently his work has been published in a practical resource book on Language Teacher Education for Global Englishes by Routledge.
