The event will feature several speakers, including a special guest presentation from Ibrahim Gedeon, TELUS’ CTO, who will share his insights on how to enable innovation; and how organizations are addressing today’s challenges of technology being global and the rise of non-traditional competition.
Dr. Ibrahim Gedeon, Chief Technology Officer, TELUS
Dr. Gedeon is one of the global telecommunications industry’s eminent thought leaders. He has carved out an international career by combining insight and skill as an applied scientist with a lighthearted approach to leadership. As CTO for TELUS, a leading national telecommunications company, he is responsible for all technology development and strategy, security, service and network architecture, service delivery and operational support systems, as well as service and network convergence, and network infrastructure strategies and evolution. Under his leadership the TELUS wireless broadband network has become one of the best in the world.
Ibrahim serves on the board of the Next Generation Mobile Networks Alliance, the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions and the Institute for Communication Technology Management. In addition to his industry leadership roles, he has been awarded with IEEE Communications Society’s prestigious Distinguished Industry Leader Award and elected a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) for his significant contributions to the field of engineering. Ibrahim has also been named one of the 100 most powerful and influential people in the telecoms industry in Global Telecoms Business magazine’s GTB Power 100.
Jean-Charles Fahmy, President and Chief Executive Officer, CENGN
As President and CEO of CENGN, Jean-Charles (JC) Fahmy provides leadership and strategic direction to the company, and drives the delivery of CENGN’s mission by working with the ICT ecosystem on enabling the commercialization, growth, and global competitiveness of Canada’s innovation economy. JC has over 25 years of global leadership experience in tech, creating value and accelerating business performance with large public companies as well as both Private Equity and Venture Capital backed businesses. JC holds an MBA from McGill University, and a BASc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ottawa.
Andrea Johnston, Assistant Deputy Minister, Innovation Canada, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED)
Andrea Johnston is the Assistant Deputy Minister, Innovation Canada, an organization within Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED), that leads the federal government’s collaborative platform to help Canada’s innovators and entrepreneurs find and access government programs and services. In this role, Andrea leads delivery of new programs under the Innovation and Skills Plan including the Innovation Superclusters Initiative, the Strategic Innovation Fund, Innovative Solutions Canada and the Accelerated Growth Service. Andrea is also the department’s Diversity and Inclusion champion.
Guy Levesque, Associate Vice-President, Research Support and Infrastructure, University of Ottawa
As Associate Vice-President, Research Support and Infrastructure, Guy Levesque brings expertise and innovation leadership insight from his recent position of Vice-President of Programs and Performance at the Canada Foundation for Innovation. Guy holds Bachelor degrees in both Geology and Education as well as a Masters in Geology, all from the University of Ottawa. Guy is an active and involved member on the Board of Directors of the Kanata North Business Association and on the Advisory Board of the uOttawa - Kanata North partnership.
Peter Heath, Ph.D., Senior Manager, Training Programs, CENGN
Peter Heath has over 20 years' experience in higher education and commercial training for information technology, from classroom teaching to self-paced content creation to program design, development and execution in both academia and industry. Peter joined CENGN in 2018 where he has applied this experience to building the CENGN Academy program and team, with the goal of making CENGN the most trusted provider of training in Canada's cloud and networking ecosystem. Peter has a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Carleton University and spent an amazing 10 years working in higher education internationally before returning to Ottawa in 2014.
