The Program enhances Canada's Public Service leadership skills in:

Objectives

  • Strengthen leadership competencies required to meet deputy ministers’ expectations of senior comptrollership leaders.
  • Develop knowledge and leadership skills that are job-related and immediately applicable to the existing context and enhance the readiness level of the next generation of comptrollership leaders.
  • Build a network of colleagues amongst the comptrollership community for collaborative problem-solving.

Upon completion of the program, participants will be awarded a Certificate of Professional Development from the University of Ottawa Professional Development Institute.

360 Lumina Assessment

360 Lumina Assessment invitation with instructions will be sent to participants October 28, 2019. 

Return completed assessment by November 8, 2019.

Completion date November 8, 2019.

Developmental Assignments

  • On-the-job learning activities (monthly)
  • Self-reflection journal (weekly)
  • Proposed readings
  • Other activities may be proposed

Throughout the program (approx. 5 hours per week)

Launch

  • Introductions and program overview
  • Discussion of self-assessment results
  • Facilitated and interactive conversation about the evolving nature of the comptrollership function and the competencies required to meet program expectations.

Leadership Workshop #1: Mobilizing People

  • Instructor-led workshop to further develop the “Mobilize People” leadership competencyInstructor-led Senior Management
  • Focus is on delegation, managing performance, and providing feedback to encourage and enable individual and team performance excellence.

Leadership Workshop #2: Oral Briefings & Emotional Intelligence
  • Instructor-led Senior Management Oral Briefings Workshop to further develop the “Create Vision and Strategy” leadership competencies.

April 8, 2020 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

Simulation

  • Participants will be given a scenario and asked to present at a simulated senior management board meeting.
  • Half day

April 21, 22, 2020 (8 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.)

Action learning circles (ALC) and individual coaching sessions

  • 4 half-day sessions in groups of 5 to 6 participants, followed by individual coaching sessions of 60 minutes each.

One per month (January, February, April, May)

Graduation & Networking

  • Guest speakers to discuss key emerging comptrollership issues with a strong emphasis on leadership and people management.
  • Participant group presentations (by community) on program takeaways.
  • Graduation and reception from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
  • Participants’ sponsors and supervisors are invited to attend.
