Payment

Successful applicants will receive an invoice to confirm their registration to the program. The comprehensive program (intensive and interactive short courses, action learning, networking, practical work assignments, keynote speakers.) is $4,500 (Plus HST).

Payment and Cancellation Policy

Payment of registration fees

Full payment is required upon reception of admission offer.  Candidates will receive an email invoice from the University of Ottawa Professional Development Institute with their offer of admission.

Withdrawal from the program​

  • Withdrawal from the program must be provided in writing at PDInstitute@uOttawa.ca
  • An organization may submit the name of another candidate as a replacement. The proposed new candidate’s profile will be evaluated by the Program Director.
  • Candidates who withdraw their application ten business days before the cohort begins will get a full refund.  Candidates who withdraw their application less than 10 business days ahead of the cohort and before the cohort begins will be charged a $675 administrative fee.
  • Candidates who withdraw from the program after the start of the cohort program will not be refunded.

Program confirmation

Applicants who qualify will get a tentative offer of admission from their Program Director within a week of their application. The Institute will officially confirm the start of the program as soon as sufficient applications will have been received, but no less than 2 weeks before the scheduled start of the program.

Attendance requirements

Participation in all scheduled activities of the program (workshops, action learning groups) is mandatory in order to obtain the University of Ottawa Certificate of Professional Development.  Exceptional circumstances will have to be discussed with the Program Director.  Individual accommodations will incur extra costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How will I know if my application is accepted?

The Institute will review all applications. Successful applicants will be notified approximately one month before the cohort program begins.

What criteria are used to evaluate the applicants?

The program seeks professionals who demonstrate the potential to rise through the ranks and eventually serve as a CIO in government or in a medium to large private sector organization. Enrollment will be limited and will be based on experience, recommendations and sponsorships. Those accepted into the program should expect to invest about 10 days of their time over the course of the session to complete the program

Do I have to work in a CIO’s office to apply?

No. Anyone with an interest in becoming a CIO will be considered, although a minimum of management experience is required.

Do I have to work in the federal government to apply?

No. While the program is designed with federal employees in mind it may also be useful to those who work for other levels of government or for the private sector.

Can more than one person apply from a particular department or office?

Yes.

How much does the program cost?

The comprehensive program (intensive and interactive short courses, action learning, individual coaching, networking, practical work assignments, keynote speakers.) is $4,500 (Plus HST).

Can I sign up for one or more workshops?

No. The program is comprehensive and is delivered to a cohort of students.

Do I have to be bilingual to apply?

No. Workshops may be offered in French, English, or in a bilingual setting.
