Orientation for Departmental Audit Committee (DAC) Members

Program Overview

In this course, Departmental Audit Committee (DAC) members will gain an understanding of the machinery of the Federal government as well as insight into the DAC members’ roles and responsibilities and strategies to effectively discharge these responsibilities. Participants will hear from senior executives from across the Federal government as well as participate in small group discussions to hear and learn from one another.

Registration is open to DAC members, CFO’s and CAE’s, recognizing that priority will be given to DAC members.

Laurel Murray, FCPA, FCA Bob Plamondon FCPA FCA, ICD.D is a consultant, independent board member, economist and author. He has expertise in public policy, strategic planning, finance, organizational transformation, performance and risk management, and Canadian history..

Ms. Murray is a member of the Departmental Audit Committee (DAC) for an Agency in the Public Safety Portfolio and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Ottawa Airport where she also chairs the Audit Committee. In addition, she is a member of the Board of Directors of Pine River Foundation and the Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association (EORLA). She is the past Chair of the Audit Committee of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. She was a Corporate Director at the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) and the Chair of the LCBO Audit Committee, the LCBO being one of the largest Crown Corporations in Canada with annual revenue of more than $5 Billion.

Bob Plamondon FCPA FCA, ICD.D is a consultant, independent board member, economist and author. He has expertise in public policy, strategic planning, finance, organizational transformation, performance and risk management, and Canadian history.

Bob currently serves on Standing Senate Committee on Audit and Oversight as one of two external members. He also sits on the board of OPTrust, a defined benefit pension plan that holds $25 billion in assets and is Vice-Chair of the Ontario Internal Audit Committee that oversees the internal audit function for all provincial spending. He has taught at 3 Canadian universities and is the director of the Comptrollership Leadership Development Program at the University of Ottawa. He has served on the board of the National Capital Commission where he was the chair of the audit committee and was a member of the executive committee. He has also led the governance evaluations of the board of directors of various Crown Corporations.

Bob became a Chartered Accountant in 1983 and was elected a Fellow in 2003. The author of five books, Bob is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors and completed the Rotman Directors Education Program. In 2012 was awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal.
