Event Overview

The Global Terrorism Index, now in its ninth iteration, is a landmark synopsis of terrorism trends around the world. The report provides a comprehensive summary of the key global trends and patterns in terrorism over the last decade.

The dataset contains over 60,500 terrorist incidents for the period 2007 to 2022.
The Professional Development Institute is pleased to offer an overview of the 2023 Index on March 22, 2023.

Serge Stroobants

Serge Stroobants is the Director of Europe and the MENA region and the Global Director for Security, Defence and Intelligence at the Institute for Economics and Peace. His academic specialization is in political sciences, international relations, security and defence, global risk analysis, foresight, and crisis management. He holds degrees from the Belgian Royal Military Academy, the Free University of Brussels, Université Jean Moulin Lyon III (France), the German General Staff College and Vesalius College Brussels. He is a former staff officer of the Belgian Army and is now directing BANTS Consulting, his own consultancy in strategic security focusing on OSINT and Cybersecurity.



Michael Collins

Michael Collins is the Executive Director for the Americas at the Institute for Economics & Peace Responsible for expanding IEP’s presence and impact in the Americas and the adoption of IEP’s Positive Peace Framework as an evidence-based tool for effective peace-centered development. Prior to joining IEP, Michael helped develop and oversee educational and job creation programs in emerging nations, working frequently in communities affected by natural disasters, poverty, and gang violence. Prior to pursuing a career in the non-profit sector Michael managed a construction firm. He studied electro-mechanical engineering and lives in Long Branch, New Jersey.
