Clear, Concise Writing II

Overview

This is a successor course to "Clear, Concise Writing".

Over 12 online hours, students will hone their clear writing skills for different types of communications, including briefing notes, e-mails, memos, speechwriting and public relations.

The first 6 hours are devoted to advanced principles for clear communication, while the second 6 hours include an advanced writing exercise (under a simulated tight deadline) with structured feedback from peers and the instructor.

  • Find a coherent voice that matches the style of your required workplace needs
  • Learn the practice of concision, or picking one strong word that can remove several vague words
  • Use the power of transitions to bring your audience from one idea to the next
  • Choose the writing style appropriate for each type of communication

Elizabeth Howell (Ph.D.) is a self-employed business and space writer in Ottawa. Her work has appeared in Forbes, the Ottawa Business Journal and trade magazines such as Space.com. Her teaching experience includes courses in business writing, communications and journalism at the University of Ottawa, Carleton University, Algonquin College and La Cité.
