Overview

In this workshop, you’ll discover practical tools to create more diverse, equitable and inclusive workspaces where everyone can feel a sense of belonging. You’ll also explore the role of perceptions and how you can interrupt and uncover common workplace biases. Lastly, you’ll examine the Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity (DMIS) and develop an intercultural mindset and an action plan to help you to overcome challenges and meet your intercultural goals.

 

Topics

  • Explore the role of perceptions, values, beliefs and behaviors on decision making
  • Discuss the difference between culture, diversity, equality, equity and intercultural competence
  • Examine the Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity (DMIS) and develop an intercultural mindset
  • Apply decoding tools to uncover unconscious bias (e.g. bias-aware recruitment, racial bias, gender bias, etc.)
  • Identify best practices to increase self-awareness and avoid micro-inequities
  • Develop an action plan

Featured Instructor

Karima Kara is a bilingual facilitator, coach and mediator.  She holds a Master’s in Educational Leadership from McGill University and a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University.  She has contributed to various leadership initiatives in public and private sectors in Canada and abroad. Karima is also a Qualified Facilitator for various tools including the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), the Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQ-i 2.0 and 360), the Mental Health Commission of Canada’s The Working Mind and Google’s Search Inside Yourself (SIY) Leadership Training on Emotional Intelligence and Mindfulness at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.
